about
SMASHING bad habits,
designing better habitats.

SMASHdesign was founded by Massey Paul Brooks, R.A., N.C.A.R.B., D.Arch, in 2014 while completing his Professional Doctorate (D.Arch) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. With nearly a decade of experience as a Licensed Architect, and over 20 years in the architecture, engineering, building, and construction industry, Massey has completed hundreds of projects in Florida, Hawai'i, and Colorado for both commercial and residential clients. Massey has worked for national and local companies like CallisonRTKL, JASArchitect, HighCraft Builders, and has also taught courses at The University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
Massey has a passion for service, and believes that the greatest leaders must be the greatest servants. He either currently serves or has served on various boards and committees including Habitat for Humanity, NCARB ARE Development, The AIAS, and the Loveland Construction Advisory Board.
Massey has a motto, “SMASHing bad habits, designing better habitats," that speaks to his mission; to aspire to bring value to each and every person in some small, meaningful way, and to do so with a special focus on the architecture, engineering, building, and construction industry.
Statement from Massey
I feel blessed in this life to have enough, and have enough to give. I have the privilege to enjoy each day with my wife and family, and do what I love in Colorado’s beautiful front range; it doesn't get better than that!
For my work (and my life), I have 2 main driving principles:
1. Bring glory to God in my words and actions.
…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corin. 10:31
2. Bring subject-specific value to elevate Northern Colorado: to clients, builders, trades, engineers, architects, and municipalities.
A rising tide lifts all ships.
— J.F.K. (most likely)
Underpinning those principles are a couple goals that push me to stay humble and hungry:
Conduct my actions to the highest possible level.
Work heartily as though you’re working for the Lord
— Colossians 3:23
Provide thorough and creative solutions for each project, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and longevity.
Don’t half-ass it, Massey.
— My loving sister, when I was 10
Stay curious, and don't lose sight of the wonder and opportunity for each project.
I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.
— Albert Einstein

Now, Meet the Crew (of 1 more!)

Meet Joe Le Flore, the latest addition to the SMASHdesign team! After moving to Colorado for his Interior Architecture studies, Joe found more than just a degree—he found a home. He’s someone who finds peace in life’s small moments and is deeply committed to serving others through his work. Joe believes that every project deserves excellence, regardless of scale. If it matters to you, it matters to Joe.
Statement from Joe
I enjoy all things design and my goal is to keep learning what high quality design can offer my community, friends, family, and those who are less fortunate. I like to believe that I am a visionary; I always think about the bigger picture and if there is a better way, finding something that lets everyone win.
A thought that drives me:
Beautify all things in your life.
…Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life..."
— A excerpt from A Poem by Chief Tecumseh
